Byward Market Restaurants
- Chez Lucien – 137 Murray St. This is one of our favorite restaurants. The quaint atmosphere is nicely paired with great service. The burgers are legendary (they have vegetarian and salmon options as well as beef). If you like liver and onions this is also your place. All of this can be nicely topped off with one of several options of Quebec micro-brew beers.
Map It! - The Highlander Pub – 115 Rideau St. This Scottish pub consistently serves good food at a reasonable price. The burgers and steaks are definitely worth a try. If you like scotch, this place has an impressive selection. The patio is right in the heart of the Market and is a fantastic place to enjoy a pint on a warm afternoon.
Map It! - Lone Star Texas Grill Marke – 128 George St. This is a rare chain restaurant to make our list, but the food is predictably decent and they have a nice big patio that catches the afternoon sun. A good spot to go with a larger group or children. If you like Tex-Mex they do it pretty well. The steaks are pretty good and the burritos are yummy.
Map It! - Mama Grazzi’s – 25 George St. Good value Italian cuisine served up in a charming atmosphere.
Map It! - Vitoria Tratoria – 35 William St. Another one of our favorites. Italian cuisine set in a great ambiance. Great food and service with an award winning wine list. A definite destination for a really nice dinner. We have recommended this restaurant to dozens of guests and have yet to receive anything but positive feedback.
Map It! - Kinki Sushi - 41 York St. A hip sushi restaurant with the feel of a cocktail lounge. The DJ spins while you enjoy. The ambiance is great, the service is good, but the sushi is hit or miss. A nice alternative is Wasabi restaurant.
Map It! - Domus - 85 Murray St. For the total package, at a pretty high price, try Domus. Its fine foods are very well reviewed.
Map It! - Vinyards - 54 York St. One day a pub fell in love with a fine dining restaurant, and Vinyards was their offspring. A huge wine list will pare nicely with whatever you choose. The interesting ambiance and wine list are keys to this restaurant. The food is pretty good too…
Map It! - Sweetgrass Aboriginal Bistro – 108 Murray St. Fine local cuisine inspired by Canada’s original locals. Great food and ambiance. Many of our guests have loved the food but some have had to deal with poor service.
Map It! - D'Arcy McGee's Irish Pub - 44 Sparks St. Fun atmosphere, good food and good service. The boxties are great and the beer is plentiful. Friday happy hour has cheap pints, often accompanied by free oysters
Map It! - Royal Thai – 272 Dalhousie St. A safe bet if you have a craving for some Thai.

A few weeks ago 8 of us sat down at the Highlander pub to partake in the Scotch tasting. We sampled 4 different kinds, ate the free appetizers, and then had some more scotch. Great day!
Stopped in for a coffee and snack at the Tea Party on York st. Cool little spot. Old home with mismatched furniture and a good amount of art on the walls. The brownie and peanut butter cookies were fantastic.
Earl of Sussex. Hit the patio yesterday for a pint, or two... and tried the nachos and the crispy chicken wrap. Nachos were good. The wrap was really good!
Great dessert downtown Ottawa? Look no further than Oh so Good on York St.
Tried some of the Tapas at the Side Door on York St last night. We had a couple different types of tacos, the shrimp dumplings, and the chocolate donuts. The Chinese pork taco and donuts were my favorites. This is a hip restaurant that is great for sharing small plates amongst friends.
