Suggested Itinerary

½ Day

Take a stroll through the ByWard Market and work your way over the Rideau Canal towards the Parliament buildings.  On your way to Parliament stop in the Chateau Laurier and have a look around.  If you have the time, try and get in a tour of Parliament.  It’s free and only takes about 40 minutes.  The war monument will be on your left as you proceed from the Chateau to Parliament.  It is worth a closer look.  As an alternative to the Parliament tour, head up the hill behind the National Art Gallery.  There is a nice little park up there that gives a great view of the Ottawa River, Parliament, the Canal, the Chateau, and more.

1 Day

Take in the same activities as the ½ day.  If you prefer a more leisurely pace this may be enough.  Perhaps consider stopping at La Bottaga at 64 George st. in the Market.  They make a huge $5 sandwich that you could take with you when you head up behind the National Art Gallery to enjoy the view and a small picnic.  If you would like to see a little more, Rent a bicycle, rent some skates, or enjoy a walk along the Rideau Canal.  Consider stopping for refreshments at the Canal Ritz along the way, or if you make it all the way to Dow's Lake there are a few restaurants at the Dow’s Lake Pavilion.  If you have been skating you may enjoy stopping in for a hot chocolate.  If it’s a little warmer out the patios are very pleasant.

If you have more than a day to spend in Ottawa try checking one of the many museums or galleries, or any of the other activities suggested on this site.
